Conan and NBC come to an agreement

Mere days before Conan O'Brien's amazingly short stint as Tonight Show host comes to an end, an agreement has been signed between him and the network.

In the deal, which was officially announced by the NBC, Conan will receive $45 million dollars, with $12 million being allotted to severance pay. On the downside, Conan will not be able to take any of his intellectual properties, such as Triumph, the Insult Comic Dog, with him to another network. There is also a non-compete clause to the deal that keeps Conan off the air until September 1st.

Though disappointing for O'Brien, who only spent 7 months as host of the Tonight Show and nearly 20 years at the network as writer for Saturday Night Live and host of Late Night, he now has a number of opportunities open for him. Those mentioned on his show include a guest stint on the FX drama Sons of Anarchy and a supposedly serious offer to star in a porn film.

For NBC the problems are just beginning. After the poor treatment given to O'Brien the network will need to lure angry viewers back to a Jay Leno hosted Tonight Show as well as a 10:00PM weeknight schedule filled with scripted and reality programming. Then they will need to work on repairing their extremely tarnished image. There's a good chance that some heads will roll in the executive offices in order to make this happen.
